Listen to a short clip of the Barulho samba band and see their flashy lights in this video taken on the winter solstice in Brighton 2006. And check out more photos of the band and the parade on my flickr page Burning the Clocks

Mishka Adams online
Mishka Adams’ new website has just been launched and it’s worth taking a look, not just to find out when she will be playing – she has lots of London gigs lined up – but for the beautiful design. There are also photos and articles for you to see and read all about this fantastic jazz singer. Only thing missing is sample tracks, so you’ll just have to go along and hear her live.

Coco Rosie
This duo were accompanied by a crowd of dancers, shakers and beat-boxers on stage at their gig at the Scala which made for a brilliant, energetic and dynamic show. Coco Rosie are well worth seeing live, but checking out their album Noah’s Ark will give you a taster of their trip-hop meets rap meets opera style music.

Bat for Lashes
Lemon Jelly
Just discovered Lemon Jelly – its upbeat, jazzy, easy listening (excuse the genre!) – Mr Scruff-ish. “This is happy music made for cosy afternoons tucked up on the sofa and if you’re looking for something that’ll give you a bit of a spring in your step, then you really couldn’t do much better.” – read more of this review and listen to a couple sample tracks on the BBC dance review page.
The Pinch on Slashmusic
A friend’s band The Pinch have been short-listed in Channel 4’s slash music competition. Out of thousands of entries they have selected the best 10. The vote now goes over to you, so they need your help. There are lots of great bands up there, so have a listen to the competition and then vote for the Pinch, I mean the Best!
Bat For Lashes – Cobden Club
Thanks to my friend Mary for introducing me to the wicked Bat For Lashes – Mary plays violin along with two other string players to accompany the fantastic singer Natasha Khan – who played at the Cobden club last week (which didyaknow sits pretty under the shadow of the Trellick Tower building?).
“Possessing an acute understanding and command of songwriting dynamics, Natasha utilises electric guitar on controlled feedback stun, electric piano, sequenced beats and samples and her swooping, deeply affecting voice to shape her beautiful, dizzying musical universe.”(David Morrison)
